Description
A dense, moist, and incredibly rich banana bread featuring irresistible fudgy pockets of chocolate hazelnut spread. This easy, one-bowl recipe uses simple pantry ingredients and overripe bananas for a comforting breakfast or brunch treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 large ripe bananas (about 1 ½ cups mashed)
- ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
- ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 ½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup (120g) Nutella
- Optional: ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans
- Optional: ¼ cup dark chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan with butter or non-stick spray, optionally lining with parchment paper.
- Mash the ripe bananas in a large mixing bowl until smooth.
- Add the melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract to the bananas. Whisk vigorously for about a minute until smooth and glossy.
- Add the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture with a rubber spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour about half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
- Dollop spoonfuls of Nutella over the batter. Use a knife or skewer to swirl the Nutella into the batter in a figure-eight pattern to create ribbons.
- Pour the remaining batter over the Nutella swirls and spread gently to cover.
- Bake for 55-65 minutes. If the top browns too quickly, tent loosely with aluminum foil after 30 minutes.
- The bread is done when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs (not wet batter) and the top is golden brown.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
Notes
Use the ripest bananas possible for maximum sweetness and flavor. Do not overmix the batter to avoid a dense texture. Warm the Nutella slightly if it is too thick to swirl. Store wrapped tightly at room temperature for 3 days, in the fridge for 1 week, or freeze for up to 3 months.
