Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Rolls with Maple Cream Cheese Icing

  • Author: Maya
  • Total Time: 33 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

A quick and easy weeknight dessert or dinner using refrigerated cinnamon roll dough, swirled with a pumpkin spice mixture and topped with a rich maple cream cheese icing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tube (13-16 oz) refrigerated cinnamon roll dough
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ cup (120g) pumpkin puree
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 4 oz (115g) cream cheese, softened
  • 23 tablespoons maple syrup
  • ½ cup (60g) powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9 inch baking pan generously with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, pumpkin puree, sugar, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, ginger, and nutmeg until it forms a thick paste.
  3. Unroll the cinnamon roll dough onto a lightly floured surface. Spread the pumpkin mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  4. Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seam to seal.
  5. Slice the roll into 8-9 even pieces using a sharp knife or dental floss. Place them cut-side up in the prepared baking pan.
  6. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown. If tops brown too quickly, cover loosely with foil for the last 5 minutes.
  7. While rolls bake, beat softened cream cheese until smooth. Add maple syrup, powdered sugar, vanilla, and salt. Whisk until creamy.
  8. Remove rolls from oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Drizzle with maple cream cheese icing and serve warm.

Notes

Do not ice the rolls while they are hot, or the icing will melt. Use dental floss for clean slicing without squishing the dough. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerated for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave for 15-20 seconds.
