Description
A refreshing, vibrant summer drink that combines tart hibiscus, sweet blackberries, and green tea. This healthy, antioxidant-rich beverage is easy to make and perfect for staying hydrated on hot days.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup (20g) dried hibiscus flowers
- 4 green tea bags
- 4 cups water (for tea base)
- 1 cup (150g) blackberries (fresh or frozen)
- 1 cup water (for berry infusion)
- 2–4 tablespoons honey or agave syrup
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- A small handful of mint leaves
- Ice cubes
Instructions
- Place blackberries in a medium bowl and pour 1 cup of water over them. Crush the berries with a muddler or spoon to release juices and let sit for 5 minutes.
- Boil 4 cups of water. Pour the boiling water over the hibiscus flowers and green tea bags in a large pitcher. Steep for 5-7 minutes, then remove the tea bags and flowers.
- Pour the hot tea over the crushed blackberries. Stir well and let the mixture cool to room temperature.
- Strain the liquid through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean pitcher to remove berry pulp and hibiscus flowers. Discard solids.
- Once cool, stir in honey or agave and lemon juice. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
- Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or ideally a few hours, to allow flavors to meld.
- Fill glasses with ice, pour the chilled tea over the ice, and garnish with fresh blackberries and mint leaves.
Notes
For a smoother, less bitter tea, try cold brewing by steeping ingredients in cold water in the fridge overnight. If using honey, consider making a simple syrup first to ensure it dissolves easily in cold tea. Do not over-steep green tea to avoid bitterness.
