Description
A potent, 5-minute healthy drink made with fresh ginger, turmeric, and citrus juices to boost immunity and reduce inflammation.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 medium fresh lemons (juiced, approx. 1/4 cup)
- 1 inch piece fresh ginger root (peeled and juiced, approx. 1 tablespoon)
- 1 inch piece fresh turmeric root (peeled and juiced, approx. 1 tablespoon) OR 1 teaspoon high-quality turmeric powder
- 1/2 cup fresh orange juice (approx. 120ml)
- 1 pinch black pepper (approx. 1/8 teaspoon)
- 1 teaspoon raw honey or maple syrup (optional)
- 1 tiny pinch cayenne pepper (optional)
Instructions
- Wash lemons and oranges thoroughly. Peel ginger and turmeric roots using the edge of a spoon.
- Cut ginger and turmeric into smaller chunks. Juice the lemons and oranges to yield 1/4 cup lemon juice and 1/2 cup orange juice.
- Grate the peeled ginger and turmeric into a wet pulp. Place pulp in cheesecloth or a nut milk bag and squeeze tightly to extract the juice. Discard pulp.
- In a small pitcher, combine fresh lemon juice, fresh orange juice, ginger juice, and turmeric juice (or powder).
- Add the pinch of black pepper and honey/maple syrup if using. Stir vigorously until honey is dissolved.
- Taste and adjust: add more orange juice for sweetness, honey for tartness, or ginger for spice.
- Pour into shot glasses and serve immediately.
Notes
Fresh turmeric is preferred over powder for a brighter flavor, but powder works if fresh is unavailable. Black pepper is essential to increase turmeric absorption. Store mixed juice in an airtight glass jar in the fridge for up to 2 days, or freeze in ice cube trays for longer storage. For kids, dilute with water or apple juice and add honey.
